How to Feel Empowered at Work
Due to the fact that shit costs money (and that doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon), many of us will spend a great majority of our adult lives going to work.
In an ideal scenario, every workplace would be a fulfilling and empowered place where everyone gets along and is treated with respect.
If you're going to be spending the majority of your waking hours somewhere, you'd like it not to suck right?
Unfortunately, this isn't always the case. Group dynamics are never simple, and when you add in financial pressures and power dynamics, things have the potential to go sideways. Many people end up feeling stuck and unfulfilled in their jobs.

In many cases, this can be attributed to feeling lost in the shuffle, and like just another cog in the wheel. This feeling is shitty. To thrive, you need to feel empowered.
Ultimately, feeling empowered at work is a great way to ensure that you have more job satisfaction, take more responsibility as an active participant in your work, and gives you the confidence to stand up for yourself in the workplace.
How to Feel Empowered at Work
1. Set Boundaries Right From the Start
That phrase "you teach others how to treat you" couldn't be truer. Be crystal fucking clear on what your boundaries are, and be upfront about them right away. It's much harder to turn the tables later.
If you're in a position of constantly feeling like you are being taken advantage of, then it's unlikely you'll feel empowered. However, if you lay out your boundaries from the start then everyone can get on the same page.
2. Educate Yourself
Sometimes we slave away doing shit or following policies that make no sense to us. It's easy to feel disconnected from things that we don't understand the purpose of. Ask questions! Maybe knowing the reasons behind seemingly arbitrary rules and processes can help you feel more connected to your work.
3. Use Your Voice
It doesn't matter what level of the workplace hierarchy you're chilling at, your unique perspective and ideas have value. Don't be afraid to sound the alarm if there are problems, and chime in with potential solutions.
Whether quiet or loud, just remember that your voice matters.
4. Check Your Fucks
Remember that there is a difference between taking pride in your work and putting undue stress on yourself. If you start to feel overwhelmed, take a little inventory about whether the issue is worth the fucks you're spending on it.
Many problems have solutions, and often we take things more personally than we need to. Breathe deep, and keep fucking going.
